OMBERSLEY'S Oliver Uffindall made an early impression for Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) after they departed for South America.

MCC have started their 2018 touring programme and Uffindall is in a 13-man squad of playing members from around the United Kingdom.

The 15-day trip is the first of three overseas tours this year with visits to Sweden and Kenya to follow.

MCC take on the Brazilian, Chilean and Peruvian national sides as well as several other T20 fixtures against leading clubs in Brazil and Chile.

The squad arrived in the Chilean capital Santiago to take on Prince of Wales Country Club on Thursday with Uffindall scoring 55 not out and taking 1-45 in a 169-run win before facing Chile and Peru this weekend.

They also joined in nets and training sessions with Chile women’s team.

The squad then fly to Brazil to play Sao Paolo CC on Tuesday and Brazil on Wednesday with two games against each.

Rio de Janeiro is the final stop where Carioca CC will be the opponents in four matches next weekend.

MCC last toured Brazil and Chile in 2007.

Cricket in the countries dates back to the 19th century but they only became ICC associate nations in 2002.

MCC head of cricket John Stephenson said: “We have selected a squad we believe will provide challenging opposition for the matches in Brazil and Chile and we are hopeful this tour will aid the development of cricket in both countries.

“The trip marks the beginning of an exciting schedule of MCC overseas tours this year with another group of playing members getting the chance to represent the club.”
