WORCESTER Nomads started the Worcestershire Cricket League Division One season with a hard-fought 19-run victory over Feckenham at Bransford.

Young Cameron Blakey produced a fine all-round performance to be voted man of the match.

Feckenham asked their relegated hosts to bat first in cloudy conditions and a rain break reduced the match to 42 overs per side.

Nomads slumped to 48-5 in a hectic first 20 overs with Guy Davies scoring 36 before he was bowled by Tom Coulson (4-27).

Skipper Ben Schiffmann did well for 22 before Blakey played maturely for 15 not out alongside Tom Baker's 26 to boost the innings to 134 all out.

Feckenham's reply started poorly as they crashed to 30-3 from 12 overs and Schiffmann (2-33) capitalised on the swinging ball.

The visitors edged to 50 without further loss but two wickets in eight balls reduced them to 52-5 thanks to spinner Blakey (5-27).

A rapid partnership of 35 took the score to 87 before Steve Emson grabbed a vital run out with a direct hit.

The winning draw score was 114 which they reached with five overs left but only after losing three more wickets.

Josh Stacey (47) top edged off Blakey with just 11 balls remaining and Patrick O'Driscoll held the catch at square leg to earn Nomads maximum points.

Worcester's home match with Pedmore fell foul to the weather.

Stourport earned a maximum-point win with 241-7 against Cookley thanks to half-centuries from Michael Pratt (66) and Andrew Siwicki (51).

Ryan Derrick (6-14) and Lee Waldron (4-28) dismantled the home team for 50.

Chaddesley Corbett won the battle of the promoted teams as they overcame Evesham by six wickets.

Bewdley started with a 17-point winning draw at Colwall.

There were two Division Two wash-outs including at Worcester's Old Vigornians.

Coombs Wood beat promoted Himbleton at home by 29 runs.

Droitwich posted the division's highest total at Kempsey where Matthew Gurr scored 53 in their 223 all out.

But promoted Kempsey held on with one wicket left to prevent a maximum-point victory.

Division Three matches were abandoned at Malvern and Martley.

Rushwick beat Bromsgrove by 71 runs after being bowled out for 160 but then skittling their visitors for 89.

Promoted Hanley Castle and Upton lost by four wickets to visitors Avoncroft who were boosted by 4-28 from Jonathan Hunter and 55 from Tom Murray.

Only two matches survived the rain in Division Four with Kidderminster beating Claverley by 24 runs thanks to Ryan Field's 108 not out and Stourport crashing by 220 runs to Halesowen who amassed 402-4.
