TWO Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Club aces have been called up by Great Britain.

Amanda Hughes, 41, will be in the GB senior A (40+) squad for the 13th European Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany, in late August.

Sian Williams, 17, has been picked for GB under 18s again after being involved for three years, competing in medal-winning world and European championship campaigns in Canada, France and Italy.

Hughes, of Warndon Villages, said: "I have been paddling for Worcester for just under four years and over the last eight months I’ve juggled young children, training and work so am proud to be chosen for the squad.

"Thanks to the support of my family, friends and Russ and Ray from the Worcester Dragons who have mentored me."

Williams has been a member of the Worcester squad for the past five years.

Worcester Dragons won silverware in the mixed 200-metre plate final at Bristol in the second regatta of the season, finishing second by 0.3 seconds.

They next race at Stockton-on-Tees on the bank holiday weekend.

Anyone interested in dragon boating can join training on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6.30pm and Sundays from 9.30am.
