GERRY McLean won Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park ladies’ Easter Shield convincingly with 34 points.

The sun shone at the Worcester course as McLean triumphed off her handicap of 36.

With just two pars in her round she kept it tight and tidy and carded two four-point scores, four three-pointers and numerous two-pointers.

A bad sixth hole and another couple of lapses on the back nine all for no-scores meant she came in just under her handicap but McLean had still done more than enough to take the win and the trophy with plenty of room to spare.

Jane Brinsford (24 handicap) was second on 26 with Jane Rowland (28) third on 25 and Moyra Bodley (34) fourth on 24.

Andy Wood, Mike Williams and Collis Fisher (team handicap 10.2) won a Texas scramble with 61.8 nett.

Brian Price, Bob Henry and Paul Woodward (6) were second on 62 with Ed Nicklin, Geoff Edge and Duane Parsons (8.7) third on 62.3 and Ron Law, Roger Jones and Dave Phillips (6) fourth on 64.

Ten teams contested the scramble on a warm day and the winners coped with seasonal work on the greens to combine well.

A birdie on the ninth and 13 pars just about gave them the advantage over their closest rivals but with four bogies also they certainly could have made it easier for themselves.

Ben Watts (14) won the spring national with 63 nett from Stephen Baylis (7) on 64, Barrie Hope (8) on 64 and Dave Gnatt (16) on 65.

There were 53 players enjoying favourable conditions with 17 bringing home scores of nett par or better.

Watts earned a handicap reduction to 13 after birdies on 15 and 18 together with eight pars with four on the trot on holes four through to seven.

He had two double bogies on 12 and 17 but consistency throughout his round helped secure victory.

Leighton Hine (14) won the Presidents Trophy first round with 65 nett from Ed Nicklin (14) on 66.

Andy Wood (23) was third on 67 and Phil Rowland (19) fourth on 69 among a 35-strong field.

Hine carded birdies on two and 18 and parred another seven holes but even he came to grief all too often and also lapsed with three double bogies.

His handicap was reduced to 13.

The summer league first round went to Mike Williams (17) with 62 nett from Mark Keeling (9) on 64.

Scott Thomas (12) was knocked down to third on countback on 64 and Andy Turner (21) finished fourth on 65 as 46 players competed in cool, dry conditions.

Williams enjoyed a hole-in-one on the 10th plus 11 pars which were countered by three double bogies and a quadruple on the fourth.

His handicap flew down to 15.
