HEAD coach Sam Bird reckons Severn Stars can take heart from recent road trips when tackling a double-header against Surrey Storm.

The Stars host the opening leg at the University of Worcester tonight (7.30pm) before heading to Surrey Sports Park on Monday (7pm) bidding to cement a spot in the top half of Netball Superleague.

The home fixture had been scheduled for early March but snow forced a postponement, meaning the rivals will know plenty about each other ahead of the reverse fixture.

“The weekend presents the chance for six points on the board and to secure a place in the top half of the table,” said Bird.

"Storm are a good team with a history of success in the competition but we have been performing strongly and will be looking to push on with that level of high performance this weekend.

"The players are really looking forward to two big games against Storm, we’re really up for it.

“Recovery will be key for the second match. The travel always adds extra logistical challenges but our away performances have improved significantly over recent weeks.

"Monday should be no exception to that improvement. It’s a challenge preparing for a match against the same team in short succession, we have less time to review and examine the first performance.

"But I will be working overtime to push on for a second and stronger performance from our squad.”

Stars head into the matches on the back of an agonising 55-49 defeat to Manchester Thunder.

At today's home game, Stars will be supporting the #GetLippy campaign in aid of the Eve Appeal, which raises awareness about gynaecological cancers and helps fund life-saving research.
