FA CUP hero Sean Geddes could be in line for a shock return to Worcester City after being invited to pre-season training.

Formerly a Manchester United trainee and Walsall professional, Geddes has endured a nomadic existence in the semi-professional game following his highlights at City.

He scored both goals in the FA Cup second round proper triumph at Coventry City in 2014 and became an online sensation when his rabona strike against Barrow went viral on YouTube.

Since then, City has dropped three levels while Geddes has sporadically popped up at a variety of outposts looking to rekindle the magic of his efforts in blue and white and those that helped Stourbridge to the FA Cup second round on two occasions.

And with the 26-year-old looking to kickstart his career after recent knee surgery, manager John Snape reckons he could prove the perfect fit for Worcester.

“A fit and revitalised Sean Geddes would be a magician in any side. His creativity and scoring record speaks for itself,” said Snape.

“Due to the nature of his injury, he is on a recovery programme following some minor surgery.

“He is back in light training and has been invited in for pre-season training but he would like to negotiate something before committing.

“We have opened talks and I have a very good working relationship with him. It might suit both parties under the current circumstances.”

And Geddes is not the only star of that day at the Ricoh Arena on Snape’s hitlist with Tyler Weir in talks over a comeback.

Full-back Weir was with City twice last season, briefly leaving for Hednesford Town before Redditch United swooped for his services towards the end of the campaign.

“We have been in touch with Tyler about a return,” said Snape.

“There has been no breakdown in talks but a time limit has been set to see if he wants to come back within the current financial structure.”

Snape confirmed he would not pursue any dual-registration deal for Brad Birch on the back of Stourbridge announcing they had agreed terms with the ex-City skipper.

Negotiations with Mark Smith and George Forsyth are set to continue but striker Joel Ambalu and midfielder Yannick Gomes, drafted in at the back end of last season, are unlikely to return.

Defender Sam Hall is in the United States but plans to return to the UK for pre-season with Snape reporting he had fully recovered from a knee injury.

Shabir Khan would be “welcome” to take part in pre-season training with Snape confirming “there are some other targets who play locally” when asked about adding new faces.

One player that is unlikely to be back is West Bromwich Albion loan keeper Adam Przybek.

“We have touched base with West Brom and with Adam’s stock rising pretty quickly at the moment, they would like to see him gain experience at a higher level,” said Snape.
