PUPILS contested honours at the Hereford and Worcester Schools’ Athletics Association Track and Field Championships.

Athletes were selected to represent one of the eight districts at Worcester’s Nunnery Wood Sports Complex following qualifiers across the two counties.

Top performers earned selection for Saturday’s Mason Trophy within the Midlands and then potentially make the English Schools’ National Championships with both at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham.

In the junior girls’ age group, Nikita Gotthardt-Mills (Ridgeway Academy, Redditch) retained her 100-metre and 200m titles from last year.

Millie Clemson (Prince Henry’s, Evesham) won silver in both races.

Another Ridgeway athlete Lily Saxon claimed the 1,500m for the second year running.

Abi Timmington (Royal Grammar, Worcester) won gold in the high jump and long jump.

Lily Fennessy (St Mary’s, Hereford) became county champion in the javelin and discus with a championship record throw of 34.51m in the former.

Charlotte Colbert (St Mary’s) won gold in the hammer and silver in the javelin while Molly Smith (Hereford Cathedral) was second in the shot putt and discus.

Sydney Green (Bishop of Hereford Bluecoat) won a new event in the 300m.

For the junior boys, Andrew Wong (Bromsgrove School) took the shot putt and discus.

Ben Brinsdon (Heathfield Knoll, Wolverley) won the 300m in an English schools’ entry standard time of 37.0 seconds.

He narrowly lost out in the 200m to Nathan Biggs (North Bromsgrove) with both given the same time.

The 100m race saw Mandras Kyeremeh (Bishop of Hereford Bluecoat) gaining a national standard time of 11.4 with silver medallist Callum Brassington-Meehan (Pershore) achieving an entry standard time.

Another entry standard performance came from Dylan Menhennet (John Kyrle, Ross-on-Wye) in the hammer.

Two retained their titles from last year in Luke Richardson (RSA Academy Arrow Vale, Redditch) in the 800m and Josh Robins (Trinity, Redditch) in the 1,500m.

Josh Leonisio (Bromsgrove) placed first in the javelin and third in the hammer.

For the intermediate girls, Danielle Hopkins (The Chase, Malvern) retained her high jump and long jump titles.

Sarah Jane Ollis (The Chase) won gold in both the 100m and 200m in her first year at the age group.

She narrowly beat last year’s 100m champion Florence Ikpeme (Prince Henry’s) with both given the same time.

Three Bromsgrove School athletes achieved seven medals — Hannah Sahota (gold in 80m hurdles and silver in long jump), Daisy Clements (gold in triple jump and silver in 300m hurdles) and Emily Gittoes (triple jump, 300m hurdles and 80m hurdles).

Deanna Clarke (Nunnery Wood, Worcester) retained her 300m hurdles title.

Jorja Hope (King Charles, Kidderminster) placed second in the 200m and third in the 100m.

The shot putt competition saw both the first and second place athletes break the existing county record in Vivien Kruse (Malvern College) and Emilia Wright (St Augustine’s, Redditch) respectively.

For the intermediate boys, Darian Moore (Royal Grammar) achieved first in both the 100m and 200m. Nathan Kelly (King’s, Worcester) easily won the shot putt and placed second in the hammer.

Owen Marles (King’s) won gold in the javelin and silver in the triple jump.

Sam Roberts (Bromsgrove) was first in the triple jump and second in the 100m hurdles.

Kieran Valley (Bromsgrove) won the discus and was second in the shot putt.

Nabil Abdullah (Lucton, Leominster) took the long jump and finished third in the 200m.

Vansh Ladwa (Malvern College) picked up bronzes in the shot putt and long jump.

Stewart Greenhalgh (South Bromsgrove) won the 400m with an English schools’ entry standard time of 50.3.

Entries in the senior competitions were low but the stand-out was the boys’ 100m where Dan Banks (Tudor Grange Academy, Worcester) made it six titles in a row in his last year in 11.1 although he was pushed by Oli Gould (Worcester Sixth Form College).

There were also medals for Josh Bentley (Worcester Sixth Form) and Will Revill (King’s).

Hereford Sixth Form was well represented and James Milburn won two titles in the discus and high jump to add to his gold and silver from last year.

Levi Hughes won the gold in the triple jump and silver in the 200m with Liam Bentley second in the triple Jump and long jump.

Will Harman (St Augustine’s) bagged gold and bronze in the long jump and triple jump respectively.

For the girls, Abbie Roberts (Hereford Sixth Form) won gold and silver in the 800m and long jump respectively.
