The nine-hole competition was won by 11-year-old Sydney Blanchenot from Gaudet Luce with 52 gross from club-mate Emily Nattrass who pipped Henrietta Geddes from Rutland Water on countback with both on 54.

Lloyd and Badger will be entered into the Telegraph Vitality Junior Golf Championship with the eventual final at PGA Catalunya, Barcelona.

Open joint organiser Janet Slade said: "I was very impressed by the way all the girls conducted themselves both on and off the course.

"All were in high spirits and enthusiastic for the competition and were a credit to themselves and their respective clubs.

Fellow organiser Jo Slade said: "Our open was started in 1980 by club members Sylvia and Jimmy Gray who wanted to create a platform to promote girls' golf.

"Now 38 years on the essence of the competition remains one of development and encouragement. It is just fantastic to see the girls return each year with improved games, lower handicaps and a passion for the game of golf."

The 2019 open will be on Thursday, April 18, and for more details email dgcgirlsopen@gmail.com.
