STEVE Kupfer won the Spring Cup at Worcester's Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park.

Kupfer (17 handicap) scored 65 nett to finish ahead of Bill Kelly (22) on 67, Tony Solomon (26) on 69 and Dave Phillips (12) on 70.

Twenty-eight contestants took to the tees and were blessed with fine weather. 

Kupfer was the first player to post his score and retained the number one spot throughout.

Seven pars went on his card along with two double bogies as the city player's handicap was cut to 16.

Julian Bateman (12) won a medal at the club in a Marie Curie cancer charity event with 61 nett.

He saw off Simeon Chapman (13) on 63, Ed Nicklin (14) on 67 and Richard Markham (6) on 69.

Forty-two players took the challenge on and Bateman buried birdies on six, 13 and 18 alongside nine pars and a double bogey on the tricky fourth.

He will play off a handicap of 11 next time after carding 32 by the turn and 29 on the back nine. 

Markham finished in a four-way tie but edged fourth from Mike Williams, Steve Williams and Andy Wood on countback.

Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park lost 6-2 at home to Bewdley Pines in the West Midlands Scratch League.

Ade Day won one-up and Tom Jenkins 3&1.

But there were defeats for Tommy Hayes two-down, Richy Ryder 3&2, Mark Purser 2&1, Barrie Hope 7&6, John Griffiths one-down and Bateman one-down.
