MALVERN Joggers hosted their annual 10-kilometre race on Welland and Castlemorton commons.

The popular event attracted 278 competitors with many from other local running clubs plus some from further afield.

Black Pear Joggers of Worcester, Pershore Plums, Ledbury Harriers and Malvern Buzzards were all well represented.

The scenic, undulating course took the competitors from Welland Common up to Little Malvern and the Priory onto the Gullet in Castlemorton then back to Welland and the finish.

Cheered on by enthusiastic marshals, the first to finish was Black Pear's Neil Laurenson in 36 minutes 23 seconds followed by Jonathon Barnes of Cheltenham and County in 37.40.

Chris Grubb was third in 38.20 followed by first senior male Tony Farnsworth 38.38 and first over 40 man Jon Newey in 38.57.

The winning woman was Shona Crombie Hicks of Tewkesbury AC.

Other age-related prize winners included Sally Dring from Black Pear, Alison Merley from Malvern Joggers and Jon Mansfield from Tewkesbury.

The first Malvern Jogger to finish was Adam Grant in 25th place.
