WORCESTERSHIRE are celebrating their first Specsavers County Championship Division One win of the season after they overcame Lancashire by 202 runs.

But the visitors' Keaton Jennings made 177 and defied the County attack for nearly seven hours in pursuit of a 602 target.

He was finally beaten for pace and bowled by Pat Brown in the penultimate over before lunch at Blackfinch New Road.

The England opener struck 27 boundaries in his 295-ball knock but the hosts' pace attack persevered on a flat track and Ed Barnard picked up four more wickets to help them secure victory in mid-afternoon.

The former England under 19 player finished with match figures of 9-129 from 46.4 overs.

It was a welcome tonic in 2017 Division Two champions Worcestershire’s bid to stay in the top flight after losing four of their opening five games but they still occupy bottom spot.

Lancashire have suffered back-to-back defeats after their setback against Essex at Emirates Old Trafford in the previous game.

They resumed on 269-4 after being set a mammoth 602 target and had to contend with the second new ball after just three overs of the morning session.

But Jennings and Lancashire skipper Dane Vilas were relatively untroubled.

There was a scare for Jennings when a cut against Steve Magoffin fell just short of Ed Barnard at wide third man.

Jennings went on to complete his 150 off 259 balls with 25 boundaries out of 310-4.

Barnard eventually broke the stand after it had added 73 in 25 overs when Vilas (33) was bowled via the inside edge.

Jennings was joined by Jordan Clark who also was prepared to get his head down and graft as Lancashire edged towards their mammoth target.

But then Brown struck the crucial blow to account for Jennings.

Further defiance came after the interval from Clark (33) and concussion replacement player Danny Lamb (19 not out).

But a double bowling change midway through the afternoon session brought a swift conclusion to proceedings.

Clark was caught behind off Ross Whiteley for his first Championship wicket for three years and then Barnard went to work with deadly effect.

Stephen Parry (1) and Tom Bailey (0) were both lbw in the same over and then last man Graham Onions (0) was bowled in the next.
