IT WAS a winning weekend of racing for veteran Worcester St John’s cyclist Vince Page who took the honours at Stourport.

Page went on the attack to win the A/B/C category of race two.

Fellow St John's rider Carl Dee came fourth after opening up a gap on the bunch for several laps before being reeled in which allowed Page to run out victorious.

A mechanical issue forced Richard Graham to pull out and settle for eighth place.

Dee and Page also rode the League of Veteran Racing Cyclists' Omllop van Drie Dorphen race in Warkwickshire the following day.

Nine riders set off in age groups with the oldest going first in two minute gaps that went around seven laps of a six-mile circuit.

“Carl and I started in the over 50s group and caught most of the groups in front," Page said.

"But with three laps to go I punctured on the rough section and at the same time our group split up.

“Carl went on to finish 12th and third in the over 50s.”

National cyclocross rider Darren Atkins from Coventry was the winner.

The Ludlow TT saw more success for Worcester's Simon Garrett who came in third in 20.34.

Simon Adcook finished seventh in 22.34 and Martin Stanley missed out on a personal best by a handful of seconds.
