KIDDERMINSTER strengthened their position at the head of the Birmingham League Division One table with a 96-run victory over Worcestershire rivals Barnards Green.

The Malvern side were dismissed for 113 after the leaders were bowled out for 209.

Kidderminster lead the way by 30 points from second-placed Shifnal.

A third-wicket partnership of 60 between Worcestershire's Ben Twohig (47) and Neil Pinner (38) was the highlight with Green seamer Phil Harris picking up 3-38.

In reply, skipper Ryan Tongue stood firm against a devastating opening spell from Liam Weston (4-16) and Connor Smith (4-27) which reduced them to 17-5.

But when he was seventh out at 87 24 points were destined for Chester Road.

Brockhampton missed an opportunity to gain ground on fellow strugglers Himley after they dismissed them for 121.

Freddie Cross (4-35) and Jamie McIlroy (3-34) were chiefly responsible for Himley’s demise but Brockhampton slipped to an eight-run defeat after their former all-rounder Chris Boroughs took 5-39.

Brockhampton were always the favourites while Ian Bullock (68) was at the wicket but once he was dismissed at 110 -9 the game changed its course.

The match between Tamworth and Bromsgrove finished as a draw with the sides locked together in mid-table on 165 points.

Ryan Pedley (56) and 49 from Ashley Newfield and Alec Baker saw Bromsgrove to 235-9 with three wickets apiece for James Rudge and Josh Bowker.

Despite 58 from opener Callum Render, Tamworth finished on 167-8 with left-arm spinners Newfield (3-37) and Mark Evenson (3-38) keeping a tight rein on the home batsmen.

In the Premier Division, Barnt Green included Warwickshire’s T20 specialist Ed Pollock in their side at Knowle and Dorridge but after he was out for 45 at 60-2 they fell away to 154 all out in the 48th over.

Jack Grundy began the slide with 4-49 and George Worker finished it off with 6-29.

Worker then scored 60 as Knowle cruised to a six-wicket win with 34 overs in hand.

In a low-scoring match at Ombersley, the hosts were bundled out for 113 with left-arm spinner Iftikhar Ahmad taking 5-24.

Seamer David Ball took 4-33 then hit a composed 43 as Dorridge secured an important five-wicket victory which lifted them clear of the bottom three.

Division Two high-fliers Walmley returned from Pershore with a five-wicket win that left them one point off the top.

Chris Miles scored 55 in Pershore’s total of 189-7 against Walmley who responded with 192-5 in the 44th over.

Steady batting from Sarmad Bhatti (80 not out) and James Brocklebank (41) saw Walmley over the line.

The clash between the bottom two in the table was won by Astwood Bank by four wickets over Streetly.

Bank still trail the home side by 19 points and any remote hope that either club retains of catching the leading pack have disappeared.

Neil Curtis hit 60 as Streetly reached 193 all out with 15-year-old Josh Baker taking 4-52 and Dan Taylor 3-40.

Bank were helped to victory by a third-wicket stand of 119 between Steve Adshead (77) and Sam Thomas (56).

Sagar Mangalorkar bowled valiantly to take 5-41 for Streetly in a losing cause.

In Division Three, opener Tom Field’s 46 ensured Redditch began solidly against Stratford but once he was dismissed James Urquhart (4-32) improved his tally of wickets for the season to 43.

Archie Walker joined in with 3-61 as Redditch were all out for 158.

A robust 91 from 66 balls by Dexter Purser saw Stratford to a seven-wicket win in the 25th over.

A fluent century from Maisam Hasnain (143np) took Newport to an imposing 331-5 against Old Elizabethans with support from Simon Douglas (58) and Ed Fowler (44).

After a good start when they reached 119-2 the visitors fell away to 217 all out despite a 103-ball innings of 75 from Tom Goodwin.

Shabbir Khan (5-61) was the chief architect of their downfall which was started by Nick Watkins with 3-43.
