TRIALISTS Ben Clarke and Luke English seem set for another chance to shine when Worcester City travel to Bewdley Town tonight (7.45).

Ex-Kidderminster Harriers midfielder Clarke, 19, was The Non-League Paper’s man of the match in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Redditch United.

Right-back English spent last season with Studley having stepped up from Redditch Borough. He trialled with Alvechurch during the summer of 2017 and has been with City throughout pre-season.

“Luke has been here from day one and has been fantastic,” said assistant manager Ashley Vincent.

“He has built up his fitness really well and been brilliant around the changing room. Anything we have asked him to do he has done and a bit more.

“On top of the physical elements, the way he has fit in and his attitude towards being at Worcester has been spot on. He is great to have around.

“Ben left Kidderminster and from speaking to him, I get the feeling he fell out of love with the game. We asked him to come in to see if he could find that again.

“He is a fantastic footballer and if we can get him up to speed and wanting to play and enjoy himself he will be an asset. He looks 21 or 22 but is only 19 and like Liam Lockett, Riley Keasey, Josh Willis and Joel Owusu you would like to think he could push on.

“I think they will both play at Bewdley and are not doing their chances any harm with the performances they have put in so far.”

First-team coach Mat Birley takes charge at Ribbesford Meadow in the absence of manager John Snape and Vincent.

“It will be slightly different to the team that played on Saturday due to a couple of factors,” Vincent added.

“One or two are carrying minor knocks, others have played close to 90 minutes in two games and we think three full matches in a week during pre-season might be a bit much.

“Those lads will be there supporting and may play 15 or 20 minutes here and there. It will still be a strong team and one we expect to do what the others have, to get valuable minutes in while trying to win.”

City’s only concerning injury is that suffered by striker Nick Turton who withdrew from action at Redditch with a knee problem.

“We will have to see what comes back from Turts,” said Vincent.

“It didn’t look great at the time but after the match he said he felt okay. Fingers crossed it is nothing too sinister.

“Until he gets that looked at and we have a chat it is difficult to say. He was sore but feeling positive.

“It was a shame. As the eldest in the team, he has returned very fit and very hungry which is testament to his character.”
