STRIKER Nick Turton is likely to miss Worcester City’s opening two games of the season as he waits to have a scan on his injured knee.

The frontman has not played for City since hobbling off in their pre-season 3-1 victory at Redditch United two weeks ago.

Worcester kick off their 2018-19 Midland League Premier Division campaign on Saturday when they visit Boldmere St Michaels (3pm) before travelling to Romulus on Monday (7.45pm).

Assistant manager Ashley Vincent said it was “possible” City would be without Turton for their back-to-back away clashes.

“Nick has been struggling with his knee since he went off against Redditch,” Vincent said.

“It happened in a tackle and it was one of those where if it had been a league game he probably wouldn’t have picked up the injury as he would have gone in more forcefully.

“As it was in pre-season I don’t think he was 100 per cent sure what he was doing and extended his leg out.

“There was nothing malicious in the tackle. It was just a bit of an accident on both parts really.

“He was sore initially but hopefully we will get some good news on him as he was looking very sharp (before the injury).

“I know he has seen the doctor and is waiting to have a scan.

“I have spoken to the doctor who on first impressions thought it was not too serious which we are hopeful is the case and we can integrate him back in as soon as possible once he has had his scan and got the results back.”

There are also doubts over the fitness of converted midfielder Tyler Weir who has been nursing a thigh issue.

But Vincent is optimistic forward Jordan Harrison will be available despite sustaining a dead leg in City’s 3-1 home defeat to Stourbridge on Tuesday.

“Jordan’s leg stiffened up very quickly and he couldn’t run it off,” Vincent added.

“I have spoken to him since and he thinks he will have no problem (playing on Saturday).”

The futures of defender Luke English and midfielders Ben Clarke, Charlie Wilson and Rees Wedderburn, who have been on trial at City, have yet to be decided.
