A WORCESTER club secured seven medals at a national martial arts tournament.

Six students, both experienced and newcomers, from Master Clive Harrison’s Family Taekwondo claimed the honours at the International Taekwondo Councils National Championships in Birmingham.

Teresa and Lukas Kwaitkowska won golds in the women's and men's coloured belt sparring respectively.

There were silvers for Rachael Harrison in the women's black belt sparring and Devin Jaasi in the junior boys' black belt patterns.

The club also collected bronzes via fourth dan Harrison in the adult black belt patterns, Lily Silsby in the junior girls' black belt sparring and Melissa Mania in the girls' coloured belt sparring.

Instructor Clive Harrison, an eighth dan, said: “This was a great effort from a balanced team of youth and experience.

"There were amazing results from Teresa, Lukas and Melissa in the first competition and a great warm-up for Rachael and Lily as they prepare for the world championships being held in Worcester in October.

"Nine-year-old Devin did brilliantly in his first tournament as a black belt to take silver in his division.

"It was also nice to see setting the example and giving the benefit of her massive experience was our co-instructor and former world champion Rachael, back among the medals after a lay-off due to injury.”
