OLD Vigornians fell to a frustrating final-over defeat at Himbleton despite a maiden club century by Richard Geary in the Worcestershire League Division Two clash.

The Yorkshireman, who had not played cricket for four years before returning to action this season, has already made some valuable contributions for his adopted side.

But his innings of 104 provided the backbone of the Worcester side's innings of 290-6 in 50 overs.

He hit 16 boundaries including one six, and added 116 for the fourth wicket with Steve Campbell-Ferguson who notched a run-a-ball 52.

On a pitch where 300 is regarded as a par score, it was Nick Major who helped pick up the run rate.

Playing his first game since 2015, he made an undefeated 53 in just 28 balls, adding 76 with Todd Dudley (28) for the sixth wicket.

Ed Burgoyne (1-38) and Dave Haddock (2-62) made early inroads - removing the dangerous Richard Pretty (17) and Jon Critchlow (22).

But the Meadow Boys showed they had batting strength in depth as Stuart Dickenson (59), Matt Handford (50) and Steve Beavan (59*) kept the hosts on target for victory.

Azmat Riaz bowled superbly to concede just 38 runs but it was not enough as Himbleton made it home by three wickets with six balls to spare.
