MARTLEY gained the bragging rights over high-flying local rivals Rushwick by completing the double in Worcestershire Cricket League Division Three.

They amassed 274-8 before dismissing their fellow villagers for 237.

Martley reached 66-1 and then 94-3 through Rich Birchley (20), Jim Basford (25) and his son Alex.

But they were slowed down by spinners Lewis Hooper and Wayne Newman who both took 1-32 off 10 overs.

Alex Basford (77) held the innings together and added 89 with Dan Mayfield (35) before Dan Johnson hit a quick 30 and Pete Gardner contributed 22.

Clive Jones was Rushwick’s most successful bowler with 4-71.

Rushwick’s reply was steady with tight bowling from James Ganderton and Johnson as they reached 40-2 off 15 overs.

But the big-hitting Paul Wyatt accelerated the scoring rate with Stuart Parker (33) to reach 180-2 well ahead of the rate.

Ollie Dunks picked up 2-39 before Wyatt (73) fell to Ganderton.

At 202-4 Rushwick looked odds-on for the win until Alex Basford came on to claim 3-32.

With Mark Johnson (3-40) returning and taking two quick wickets the hosts' tail folded to give Martley victory by 37 runs.

Seconds batsman Darryl Lymer achieved a lifelong ambition by getting his first century for the club at the age of 54.

Lymer, who only took the game up seriously in recent years, hammered Tenbury's attack for an unbeaten 104 after Martley’s top order struggled to make an impact.

Shahnawaz Shamim gave valuable support with a cultured 53 as Martley reached 257-7 in their 45 overs.

Shamim then did the business with the ball as Tenbury’s top order collapsed with 4-21.

Tej Uppal was his usual frugal self with 3-13 in six overs while Max Houchin finished it all off with 2-13.

Tenbury were all out for 61, leaving Martley victors by 196 runs to take them up to fifth in Division Four.
