OLD Vigornians beat local rivals Rushwick by 20 runs in Worcestershire League Second XI Division Two.

The final wicket was taken in the 99th over of an intense match.

Rushwick asked the hosts to bat on a true surface and paid the price with Tony Meek (28) sharing in an opening stand of 128 in 30 overs.

Chris Drew made 98 before falling to a fine catch by wicketkeeper Darren Clark off Richard Bull.

Lyndon Bendall took an eye-catching boundary catch to remove Rob Lanchbury-Thomas (21) and Phil Mackie hit a measured 35 not out as OVs reached 254-6 in 50 overs.

Rushwick's reply started slowly and they lost regular wickets.

James Hayward-Meek took a diving left-handed catch off Charlie Annable (1-20).

Sami Riaz took 1-44 although three catches were spilled off his bowling and his father Jabba Riaz's 2-27 finished the match off after spinner Zain Hussain picked up 3-39.

Dan Metcalf (62 not out) and Bendall (37) gave Rushwick hope with an 89-run seventh-wicket partnership.

But Rushwick fell behind the run-rate and lost their last four wickets for six runs in being dismissed for 234 with nine balls remaining.
