WORCESTER Wolves have captured American Quadir Welton as their big centre for the 2018-19 season.

Welton spent his college career at NCAA Division One Saint Peter’s University, entering the starting five in his first season.

He helped the team win the 2017 CollegeInsider.com Post Season Tournament and was awarded MVP of the competition.

In Welton’s senior year, he averaged 12 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game and was in the All-MAAC first team.

He led the team in scoring, rebounds and blocks.

For his entire college career, Welton recorded 1,191 points, 884 rebounds and 136 blocked shots.

He graduated ranking third all-time in career rebounds and blocks.

Welton spent his rookie year at Argentinian side Centro Deportivo Rivadavia de Mendoza, averaging 13.3 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game earning him an All-Argentinian TNA honourable mention.

At 6 ft 8ins, Wolves hope his strong frame, footwork in offence and strong rebounding ability will make him effective at both ends of the floor.

Welton said: “I would like to thank Wolves for allowing me to join their family! I really look forward to coming there, playing and meeting my new team-mates and fans.”

Wolves managing director Mick Donovan said: “We have spent a great deal of time trying to find the right player to fill this position and firmly believe Quadir will offer the versatility, speed and quality at both ends of the court to make a significant impact for Wolves in the BBL.

“The energy that he brings with his other new team-mates will also be a critical factor as we move into our new era.”
