MANAGER John Snape is hoping to be boosted by the return of several key men for Worcester City’s trip to Walsall Wood in the FA Cup extra preliminary round tomorrow (3pm).

Versatile George Forsyth (knee), striker Kyonn Evans (hamstring) and full-back Jamie Smith (hip) could all be back for City’s visit to the ML Safety Stadium.

Goalkeeper Matt Gwynne is also expected to be available after a “car crash incident involving his wife” forced him to miss Worcester’s 2-1 defeat at Romulus in the Midland League Premier Division on Monday.

But frontman Nick Turton is still nursing a knee injury sustained in pre-season and Snape said he was a “long way away” from making a return to action.

“I am hoping to have a few back from injury on Saturday,” Snape said.

“Fozzy is 50-50 for the game and I also think Kyonn may have a chance to play but Turton is a long way away.

“Gwynne will be back with us on Saturday. There is no problem with him at all. There was a car crash incident involving his wife and it was more important that he dealt with that to be honest.”

Fit-again Tyler Weir, hoping to play in midfield this season, took the place of Smith who is likely to reclaim the left-back spot against Wood.

“I think Jamie should be back for Saturday as well so that will be another one who just adds that bit more quality,” Snape said.

“He has been fantastic in the air for us and his left foot on that left-hand side gives us a bit of balance so we will see.”

Defenders Sam Hall and Wesley Lewis are recovering from knee injuries while Snape was delighted to welcome player-coach Mat Birley back into the team.

The 32-year-old midfielder marked his comeback with a first-half free-kick to give City hope of a revival at Romulus.

“It is not like we haven’t got good players,” said Snape who is hoping to sign a midfielder this week.

“We are just missing a couple of key individuals in big areas — and that’s cost us.

“Birls coming back was a massive positive on Monday night.

“He was a huge player for us towards the end of last season when we brought the kids in and he can be again.

“He was disappointed on Monday and he let the lads know it.

“But I don’t want to be downbeat before the weekend as I don’t see anyone not trying.

“Yes, we do need to change one or two. That process will hopefully be done this week and we can go and get the right result against Walsall Wood.”
