THERE was remarkable scoring in Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park’s Summer National.

Twenty-two of the 44 starters managed to get their ball round in nett par or better for the Worcester course.

Owen Baker (18 handicap) flew ahead of the rest on 56 nett with Jonathon Niccol (23) second on 61.

Julian Bateman (11) got third from Kieran Sherlock (12) in fourth and Darren Cook in fifth on countback with all on 62.

Baker carded a birdie on the sixth, 11 pars and nothing worse than bogies elsewhere.

His handicap was cut to 15 with Niccol’s reduced to 21, Bateman’s to 10 and Sherlock’s to 11.

Medal honours at the city club went to Ed Nicklin (14) on 66 nett but it was a close with a three-way tie at the top.

Nicklin edged out Mick Huggins (17) and Harrison Leaver (4) while John Hine (21) was fourth on 68.

Nine pars put the eventual winner in with a decent shout but a triple bogey seven on the fourth left him reliant on the card play-off.

Nicklin came back with 32 to take the honours.

Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park lost 178-146 at Bransford in the 17-24 Handicap Golf League.

They fell to a better side on a challenging course with the best four out of five scores counting.

Tim Cawley and Joe Jackson managed 42 points, Bob Wood and Luke Gibbs 32, Norman Vernalls and Huggins 32, Tim Delaney and Dave Bradley 33 and Andy Turner and Brian Hodgetts 39.

Cawley and Jackson and Turner and Hodgetts managed to play under their handicaps.

The seniors were successful though, beating Rodway Hill from Gloucestershire 4-2 at home.

There were wins for Huggins and Jackson two-up, Nicklin and Dave Brace one-up, Phil Lane and Brian Price 5&4 and Jan Schutte and Roger Cutler 5&3.

Roger Savage and Fred Hackett lost 3&1 and Roger Jones and Geoff Jones 2&1.
