WORCESTER'S Old Vigornians won their first match in nearly two months when they defeated local rivals Kempsey by eight wickets at New Road.

Their spinners dominated Kempsey after they were put into bat in Worcestershire League Division Two.

Captain Alex Parker picked up 3-34 and teenager Ed Burgoyne 3-40.

Ben Ware made 59 for the visitors but after Joe Worthington (21) and Joshua Jones (26) added 47 for the first wicket no one was able to stick with him.

Kempsey slumped to 132 all out as Azmat Riaz (2-6) helped mop up the tail.

Wicketkeeper Steve Campbell-Ferguson took a catch and two stumpings.

The old boys made light work of the target.

Osman Fiaz and Nick Major were both on 43 not out as they eased home by eight wickets before the rain with 20 overs to spare.

The defeat sent Kempsey to the bottom of the table.

A frantic run-chase proved fruitless as OVs seconds fell by a rain-adjusted 15 runs to Division Two leaders Chaddesley Corbett.

Chaddesley amassed 317-6 in 50 overs. Openers Arslan Mehmood (84) and Zukky Shabbir (67) picked up regular boundaries but also scampered runs with 167 in 25 overs for the first wicket.

OVs' fielding was poor and they dropped five catches but the easiest were Mehmood’s and one when Amar Sodha was in his 20s. He went on to make 85.

Off-spinner Tim Race impressed with 3-41 from 10 overs and could have had five wickets.

Young Zain Hussain was unlucky not to get a wicket from a tidy spell.

With rain in the air OVs needed to keep ahead of the 6.26 run-rate.

They tried to attack the league’s best bowling attack and Chris Drew, suffering with illness, batted bravely for 44.

Skipper Aidan Thompson looked like a potential match-winner before he was stumped for 36.

Phil Mackie took the visitors close before being dismissed for a quick 23 thanks to a fine return catch by Tom Mole (2-30).

When James Hayward-Meek fell for 18 OVs had slipped 10 runs behind the required rate and then the rain became so heavy both sides had to come off.

Mehmood picked up three wickets in OVs' first defeat in four games.
