NEWCOMERS Droitwich Spa got their West Midlands Football League Division One season off to the perfect start with a 4-0 victory at Sikh Hunters.

Captain Mike Seeley opened the scoring on just four minutes, looping in a header from Haydn Morris’s deep free-kick.

James Lemon and Bradley Burgess had further chances while Jack Allerton was close to turning in a low cross.

Hunters’ physical style did not seem to unsettle Spa who looked well organised and defended well.

Ex-Stourbridge striker Justin Nesbitt came closest for the hosts but otherwise keeper Matty Oliver was seldom troubled in the first half.

Spa doubled their lead five minutes after the break when Andy Crowther’s cross-shot found Lemon whose powerful close-range drive was helped into the net by keeper Liam Haynes.

A reckless decision by Hunters centre-half Matt Hall to kick out at Lemon on the floor saw him receive a straight red card.

Spa enjoyed their best spell and extended their lead when Lemon got on the end of Crowther’s cross.

Burgess and substitute Jack Davies squandered chances when through on goal.

The game was up though when Morris curled in a 25-yard free-kick.

Oliver was in inspired form late on, saving at close range from Hinesh Patel and Dan Jones.

Spa visit Gornal Athletic on Saturday (3pm).
