WORCESTER’S Black Pear Joggers hosted a highlight of their calendar with The Wild One event.

The multi-lap marathon challenge raised funds for Worcester charities Maggs Day Centre and Worcestershire Young Carers with £2,500 in total.

The off-road contest, hosted from Old Elizabethans Cricket Club, remembers club founding member Stuart Wild who died in 2013 and included an ultra-runner this year.

There was fancy dress on show in hot temperatures and youngsters started proceedings through a wild mile with Thomas Rushton and Ellie Attwood winning.

Chris Attwood was joined by Clive Andrews, Jay Warner, Darrin Lyn and Rob Bowery in the Young Ones who were the first team of five.

The Irish Welsh Combo of Ryan Lyttle and Meg Judge won the pair’s race.

The men’s solo winner was Paul Davis in three hours 32 minutes 24 seconds with Angie Sadler taking the women’s honours in 4.02.28.

For the ultra distance event, the Peaky Blinders team of Mick Kennish-Ward, Tracy Kennish-Ward, Jemma Newton-Smith, Chris Baigent-Read and Hazel Sherrington managed 15 laps between them.

The male winner was Neil Herron with 14 laps and Emily Seward won the female event with 15.

Mark Rose, Alison Law and Matt Smith managed 12 each.

A club spokesman, who thanked the army of volunteers, said: “One of the things that is always so heart-warming about this event is the camaraderie.”

Next year’s competition will be on Sunday, July 21.
