STUART West scooped a gold medal at the World Masters Marathon Canoe Championships in Hungary.

The Worcester Canoe Club member won the men's over 34 K1 in Gyor, despite a big and competitive field.

West avenged his disappointment in 2006 when he damaged his boat and missed out on the chance to do well as a result.

Club-mate Stan Smith collected a silver medal in the over 70s K1 after competing over a tough 12-mile course.

John Talbot bagged bronze in the men's over 60s K1 with Tony Nolan fourth.

Worcester boasted doubles stars in the men's and women's events.

James Parker and Chris Skellern managed over 55s K2 silver to beat their 2006 bronze.

Sue Hawthorn and Jayne Moran grabbed silver in the over 40s K2.

Tony Nolan teamed up with a Spanish paddler to claim silver in the over 60s K2.

In cold, wet conditions, there was a big turn-out in Hungary, the world's leading canoeing nation.
