WORCESTERSHIRE chief executive Mark Newton hopes to wrap up the signing of Gareth Andrew after being given permission to talk to the Somerset seamer.

The New Road outfit made their interest in the 23-year-old official as they look to increase the quality of their seam attack for the 2008 campaign.

Newton is hoping the former England Under 19 international won't be the only new face at the County next summer.

"We have been given permission to speak to Gareth by Somerset and so far we have been in contact with his agent," Newton said.

"Nothing is done and dusted at this stage, but hopefully we will resolve it in a matter of days.

"There are two or three more players that we are interested in but we haven't made any more official approaches and I'm not about to name any names."

Andrew came through the ranks at Taunton, but has found chances limited.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan international Abdul Razzaq headed home yesterday after his short term contract came to an end.

The 27-year-old held lengthy talks with director of cricket Steve Rhodes before departing.

"Nothing was said about offering anything for next season," said Newton.
