STEVE Diamond did not pull any punches in his assessment of Worcester Warriors' 43-12 Gallagher Premiership defeat at London Irish last weekend.

Discipline was once more Warriors' undoing as they were made to pay by a ruthless Irish side at The Brentford Community Stadium.

The visitors played most of the second-half with 14-men after Scotland winger Duhan van der Merwe was shown a red card for a forearm to the face of Kyle Rowe and the hosts made it count to run out 43-12 winners in the end.

Christian Judge was shown a yellow card in the first half and at half-time the game was already getting away from Worcester at 17-5.

But an early Irish score from former Worcester hooker Agustin Creevy and van der Merwe's red card proved decisive as Worcester were well beaten.

"I'm disappointed really as we have grown over the last two, three weeks but our discipline and work rate let us down and we cracked under pressure three or four times," he said.

"I don't want to come out after games and say it was a learning because it wasn't, it is bare fact that some of us aren't good enough and that was proven today.

"Yes, the red card didn't help and maybe it was slightly harsh but the referee can only apply the laws of the game and he did.

"But I don't think that was the main difference in the teams today because the game was done and dusted before and shortly after half-time.

"Heads went down and that is when you really see the calibre of people."

Diamond has been assessing players since he took over as head coach back in January and he admitted there are some difficult decisions to be made on certain individuals as he looks to build a side for next season.

"I know where we are at in some positions but the jury is still out in three or four others," he added.

"There are some difficult decisions to be made if we want to make the step up to be highly competitive.

"We need people to put their hand up every week and not just every other week

"We weren't at it today and we have to dust ourselves down again and get better."

As a result of Bath's win over Bristol, the Blue, Black and Whites overtook Worcester to leave Warriors rock bottom on points difference.
