MIKE Ruddock is looking to draft in a top referee this week in a bid to stop his players from conceding so many penalties.

Worcester were again undone by their high penalty-count as they lost 36-15 to Harlequins at The Stoop.

Sixways director of rugby Ruddock hopes getting a Guinness Premiership referee in to review the match video with his team will highlight where they are going wrong.

The Welshman describes Warriors' poor discipline as their Achilles' heel and plans to curtail his side's lawlessness.

Ruddock said: "The discipline side of our defeats will be something we have to look at long and hard and we're at the stage where I might have to get a referee in and take the boys through the video.

"We need to stop giving away these stupid penalties that are inflicting such damage on our game because the intent, ambition and desire is there. We're just killing ourselves.

"Getting a ref in is just doing all we can - we talk about one per cents at our club. For example, Miles Benjamin getting back to make his try-saving tackle, giving that extra bit of effort, was what we call a one per cent.

"I think there is a good knowledge of the laws from most coaches but if we can find one thing that makes a difference, by talking to a top-line referee who can take us through each penalty, then I don't think that is a bad thing.

"If I can arrange that this week, I will but time is a little bit against us because we are playing again on Friday. There is a lot of good things about the camp at the moment but giving away too many penalties is certainly our Achilles' heel."

On the injury front, Ruddock is optimistic captain Pat Sanderson will be fit for Friday's league clash with London Irish at Sixways, but revealed back row Netani Talei had suffered another knee setback.

Ruddock added: "Pat took a heavy blow to the arm but he is pretty confident he'll be OK for Friday and the medical team's view is that it all depends how he progresses at the start of this week.

"Netani is definitely out because he took a knock to the knee. Unfortunately, he has damaged a ligament there and could be out for three to four weeks."
