DUANE Darby insists he will not allow his Bromsgrove Rovers players to treat Saturday's last game of the season as a training exercise.

The Victoria Ground club's relegation from the British Gas Business Premier Division was confirmed following their 3-2 home defeat to Team Bath last Saturday.

However, Rovers still have to visit Rugby Town on Saturday (3pm) and Darby, although hurt by his team's demotion, does not want people feeling sorry for themselves.

He said: "I hate losing so there will be no chance that the players will be going through the motions on Saturday because I won't allow that.

"You always want to finish the season on a high and we don't want to finish third-bottom, we want to finish fourth-from-bottom.

"It's a game where the pressure is off. Now we can see what people are like with the pressure off."

He continued: "I always had belief we could get out of it and the performance the lads put in on Saturday was good.

"But, at the end of the day, the league table doesn't lie. The four worst teams go down and we are one of them.

"It's disappointing. Against the top teams, we have been good enough but against the bottom teams we haven't and that's what's cost us."

Darby begins the first of a two-game touchline ban on Saturday.

If the player-manager names himself on the bench, he will be barred from issuing instructions and will have to stand by the corner flag.

Rugby are managed by ex-Bromsgrove boss Rod Brown but Darby says that will have no bearing on the match.

"For me, it's a normal football game," he added. "We want to go there and win, no matter who is manager there."
