TALENTED young cricketers are being given the chance to showcase their ability in an exciting new Worcester News competition.

We have teamed up with Fearnley Factory Shop to launch the search for a young cricketer of the month.

Throughout the cricket season, clubs and schools can put youngsters forward for the award by nominating them for their achievements in matches.

Fearnley Factory Shop, based in Sherriff Street, are keen to promote and nurture new local talent within the game and are offering a hand-made Fearnley cricket bat as the prize each month.

Nominations can be made by e-mail to wensport@worcesternews.co.uk or by post to Cricketer of the Week competition, Worcester News, Hylton Road, Worcester, WR2 5JX.

Players need to be have been aged under 17 last September to qualify for the competition.

Running alongside the young cricketer of the month award will be our popular player of the week competition.

Fearnley Factory Shop are offering a £30 voucher for the top-performing batsman or bowler every week between now and September.

The competition is open to all county clubs and schools but professional and overseas players are not eligible to win.

Both competitions begin this weekend and, in each case, normal Newsquest Midlands rules apply and the sports editor's decision is final.
