WORCESTER Swimming Club's A' team managed a top-three finish in the Worcestershire Winter League finals.

Strong opposition from 2007 Speedo League finalists Halesowen and Stourbridge ensured they had to be content with third, while the B' side was sixth.

They had to wait until event 22 of 40 for the first success from Worcester A', courtesy of Cara Lee in the girls' 11 and under 50-metre butterfly. Dominant Lee also eased to victory in the 50m breaststroke.

The other first places were won by Amy Cooke in the 13 and under 100m freestyle and Katherine Rollins in the open 100m breaststroke.

Cooke turned the tables on the Stourbridge swimmer, who had narrowly beaten her into second place in the 100m butterfly, while Rollins led all the way, storming home in a personal best time.

Jonathan Edwards was second in the 13 and under 100m butterfly, smashing his previous best by 10 seconds.

Jack Weston (11 and under backstroke), Ayesha Gardiner (13 and under backstroke), Sarah Cowin (13 and under breaststroke), Greg Everest (13 and under backstroke), Poppy Bramford (15 and under breaststroke), Rupert Monkhouse (15 and under breaststroke) and Danielle Hunt (open backstroke) finished second.

There were 23 personal best times with many from B' team swimmers, in particular Hannah Watts (13 and under freestyle), Daniel Tipper (13 and under butterfly) and Adam Wills (open butterfly).

Final points: Halesowen 197, Stourbridge 190, Worcester A' 160, Bromsgrove 113, Redditch 109, Worcester B' 67.
