DROITWICH driver Richard Hay got back to winning ways in his defence of the evo Caterham Eurocup at the Belgian Grand Prix circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.

Hay, and his driving partner Clive Richards were in fine form at the wheel of their Colards Motorsport-prepared and Hay Fisher-backed Caterham CSR260.

Both men topped the timesheets in their individual qualifying sessions.

Hay led his 40-minute race on Saturday all the way from pole position to the chequered flag, beating French driver Herve Cordel to victory by four-and-a-half seconds.

Richards was also in dominant form in his individual race.

His lead over his nearest rival, fellow front-row starter Nick Phillips, by the end of the opening lap was two seconds, and he held on to the lead throughout.

Richards, based in Horsham, said: "It wasn't the most exciting race I've ever been involved in, but it was a satisfying win nonetheless."

However, the two-driver race on Sunday did not go to plan for the pair.

Richards took the first stint, taking his turn in front, before handing over to Hay, who was pushed back to fourth in the closing laps.

"We just didn't have the pace," said Richards, "But overall it's been a good weekend for us."

The race was eventually won by the Anglo-German pairing of Nick Payne and Kurt Hoffmann.

The next round of the evo Caterham Eurocup is scheduled to take place in Valencia next month.
