JOSH Willis struck in the 89th minute to send Pershore Town to the Smedley Crooke Memorial Cup on Wednesday night, thanks to a 2-1 win over Coton Green in a ill-tempered affair.

Willis was found at the back post after a long throw from Jake Donnely to break the hearts of Green, who ended the game with two red cards following a confrontational end to the contest.

Deep into stoppage time, there seemed to be an incident behind the goal, where one of the visiting substitutes, Harry Reece, seemed to punch Pershore defender Kirk Layton.

It marred what should have been another landmark moment for Pershore, who will now face Lye Town in the final in Redditch on Saturday, May 27 (1PM kick-off).

Nonetheless, Pershore did win the game and it means manager Danny Janes will have one last game in charge before he steps down from his role.

He has already won five trophies in his 18 months in charge, and is on the verge of another treble this season having already won the Hellenic League Division One title and Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup.

Janes is hoping to go out on a high; "It was a deserved win based on the overall play and dominance. We now enjoy one final game together as we look to secure the treble in what has been an outstanding season.

"First half we lacked quality, too many players turned the ball over in good areas and made poor decisions. In fairness to Coton, they had two excellent chances which I am sure they are disappointed they didn't take.

"We were in control of the game, but we switched off in those two moments and did not do enough in the final third. 'Donno' gets us a goal so we came in at half-time pleased that we had the lead despite not being near the levels we know we can reach.

"Second half was obviously a poor start in terms of giving away a penalty immediately. However, I thought the performance in the second half was levels above what the players produced in the first period.

"The ball moved at speed, players picked up good spaces and we really started to move Coton around. Defensively we answered any questions Coton asked and we looked a much better threat going forwards.

"The quality of our substitutes made the difference I felt, as I said Coton worked tirelessly, but then to look to the side and see the players coming on that we had at our disposal must have been tough."
