WORCESTER City will take a one-goal advantage into the second-leg of the Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup Final after an entertaining 2-1 win over Roman Glass St George on Tuesday night.

Two goals from striker Dylan Hart put City 2-0 up after 55 minutes but Roman Glass worked their way back into the game and pulled one back through Alfie Cummings’ tap-in after brilliant feet from substitute Shea Mannings.

Glass finished the game strongly and twice hit the woodwork, but City held on to take a lead into the second-leg at Roman Glass (March 20) on Wednesday.

Playing on the artificial surface at Malvern Town’s HDAnywhere Community Stadium, City settled quickest and dominated the early stages before a mix-up at the back was capitalised on by Hart, who chipped over Elliot Jones in the Roman Glass goal.

City controlled the game without really creating much more in the way of chances and they almost went in at the break level when Charlie Saunders fired wide when he should have scored.

But having gone in a goal up, City added to their lead via Hart’s header from a Liam Lockett corner.

But the game turned when the visitors brought on striker Mannings up front and it was his brilliant assist that brought them level.

He danced his way forward into the City box, going past a number of defenders, before his shot was palmed into the path of Cummings by Whitcombe, who couldn’t miss.

The final half-an-hour became a scrappy affair and City lost control of the contest, with Mannings at the centre of it all.

Both Aidan Sanfelice and Saunders hit the woodwork as Roman Glass pushed for an equaliser, but in the end, it ended 2-1, with the tie set up nicely for next week’s second-leg.
