LIAM Lockett produced a devastating individual performance in the first-half to put Brimscombe & Thrupp to the sword as Worcester City recorded a ninth consecutive Hellenic League Premier win in 2024.

Winger Lockett - who now has 35 goals this season - scored three times inside the first 22 minutes as he and City blew the hosts away in the opening 45 minutes.

It could have been more but for the woodwork and despite an improved display from Brimscombe in the second-half, City would not be denied another victory and they were able to add a late fourth when Dylan Hart scored a penalty.

Lockett took nine minutes to add to his 32 goals for the season when jinking inside in typical trademark fashion and curling the ball into the top corner. He then made it two goals in five minutes as he picked up the ball on half-way and left defenders in his wake as he charged forwards and slotted past the keeper.

And the City man ensured he would take home the match ball after just 22 minutes of action with another typical Lockett goal. He allowed a throw to run across his body before drilling home from the edge of the area.

It could have been a lot worse for Brimscombe later in the half, but the woodwork twice came to their rescue as both Kyle Belmonte and Elliot Hartley were denied.

After the break, the away side pushed for a fourth but Brimscombe survived and they went on to cause a few problems of their own at the other end.

Jonathan Welch pulled one back on the hour as his free-kick found the bottom corner and City keeper Haydn Whitcombe was thankful to see another effort soon after come back off the post.

But City controlled proceedings in the latter stages and did have the chance to add a fourth from the spot after substitute Izak Reid was fouled when through on goal. Reid dusted himself off and took the penalty, but it was saved by Jordan Scholfield.

City finished the game well in, in truth, and another penalty came their way in stoppage time and another sub, Dylan Hart, took the ball and buried it to seal the 4-1 win.
