A LECTURER at the University of Worcester has written a book exploring the psychology of motorsports.

Dr Paul Castle, a sports psychologist, has been working as a consultant with leading names in British Superbikes and Formula BMW during the last six years.

During this time, he has focused the minds of racers, to cope with the stresses, strains and pressures of competing at various levels of motorsport.

His latest book — Psychology of Motorsport Success: How to Improve Your Performance with Mental Skills Training — is published by Haynes.

It aims to bring Dr Castle’s academic scholarly activity and practical findings into one digestible, easy-to-read product.

It also contains a chapter on the importance of nutrition by fellow University of Worcester lecturer and sports nutritionist Annie Lambeth and has a foreword written by John Surtees MBE.

Described by Waterstone’s as: “A unique book for the training and sharpening of the minds of competitors. Invaluable for all the little Hamiltons out there”, the aim is to provide all high octane drivers with the chance to gain an insight into developing a mentally competitive edge.

Dr Castle said: “This book focuses on a range of psychological factors including mental imagery and visualisation, relaxation, methods of concentration and emphasises the importance of exercise and nutrition.

“The aim is to enhance a racer’s mental approach and optimise their success on-track.”

The book is available online at Waterstone’s, Amazon and in all good bookshops.
