WAYNE Parkin turned in a classy display of waggler-fishing to annihilate all opposition and win the latest Portobello club match, held on the Sycamore Pool at Broadheath fisheries.

Drawn on permanent peg 22, Parkin, who has had a quiet season so far by his standards, offered his pellet bait shallow on a mid-pool line in order to net around a dozen similar sized carp for a comfortable victory, taking 61-8-0 to the scales.

There was a tie for second place between Nic Hill and Alan Tibbetts, both anglers weighing in 21-8-0.

Having to wait until the final hour of the contest before netting his four-carp haul was club stillwater expert Hill who, on peg six, used meat bait on the pole.

Using similar tactics on peg 17 was Tibbetts, who took just three fish, the biggest going over 14 pounds. Finally, in fourth spot once again, was Mick Weston with a level 19-0-0 caught on a variety of baits.

This Sunday is the Portobello annual on the bottom Pool at Brockamin.

Barbourne AC had a close-fought contest on the Sandpiper pool at Willow Marsh recently, with Richard Hancocks being declared the winner with a feeder-caught all-carp weight of 37-13-0.

Club star Pete Hughes claimed the runner-up prize with a corn and meat weight of 35-13-0. Paul Bosworth used the feeder for a 27-0-0 third place with Jamie Anderson taking the final prize, weighing 20-2-0.

The club also tackled the top pool at Brockamin for their annual pairs event where Ashley Bosworth made full use of his end peg in the ‘neck’ to record 67-7-0 of carp to five pounds, all taken on corn at seven metres. Once again Hughes was relegated to second with 30-3-0 from peg 9. Bob Griffiths weighed in a level 25-0-0 for third to beat Richie Parker’s carp net of 22-1-0.

Top pair were Bosworth and Ernie Homans with 77 pounds and runners-up were Hughes and Andy Wheeler with a 45-pound total. This week’s match is on the High pool at Woodland View.

Arbo anglers found carp on their club pool hard to tempt, but consistent Stuart Gormley managed a few along with silver fish. His 19-12-0 total from peg three was easily enough for victory.

Bill Skillbeck came second with a waggler-caught 11-5-0, Ade Wilkes took third prize, weighing just 6-15-0, and Tim Yapp’s 5-10-8 catch sealed fourth spot.

Plough AC visited Hallow Pool where club champion Andy Sankey once again took pole position thanks to an all-carp net of 59-8-0, which fell to paste bait on peg 19.

Continuing his good run was Tony O’Neil whose corn-fed weight of 36-8-0 secured second place.

A third-place tie between junior Tom Staite and Mike Hope saw both anglers use pellet bait to record figures of 35-8-0.

Section winners were: ‘A’ Dave Warren (18-8-0); ‘B’ Les Thompson (33-10-0); ‘C’ Dave Wagg (19-0-0).

Catches at Cob House Farm seem to get bigger each week and the recent open on the Laugherne Island Pool was no exception.

Coming out on top with a staggering 101-15-0 from peg 35 was Greenman matchman Nobby Clarke who, like most competitors, took mainly small carp close in on pellet bait. In second place was Keith Haycock on peg two weighing 70-15-0, while Nick Vaughan came third, weighing 68-13-0 from peg 33.
