Evesham United 2, Chippenham Town 0
ONE of Evesham's best displays for years welcomed Southern League Premier Division football to St George's Lane where goals from Gary Hay and Danny Scheppel earned the Robins three points.
Hay headed in Joe Clarke's 20th minute cross and Scheppel wrapped up the points three minutes from time from Danny Lennon's astute centre.
The returning Nathan Vaughan produced a stupendous first half save to keep out David Pratt's header and the Robins should really have been home and dry by half-time.
Lennon and Hay both wasted great chances and the former wasted another chance a minute after the restart when he raced clear but delayed his shot with only the Town keeper to beat.
Lennon was denied by a smart save and Simon Fitter's free-kick rebounded to safety off a post as the hosts sought a crucial second goal.
Scheppel's goal was no more than United deserved but Chippenham, who hadn't scored on their three previous visits to St George's Lane, could have scored three times in injury-time.
Vaughan saved superbly from Luke Gullick, Sam Allison's finish was wiped out for offside and Steve Lutz cleared another effort off the line.

If the reports were accurate, this bloke should be knocking on the door of the England squad - However, having watched him play myself, I do not think the superlatives are valid or necessary
