Nomads Thirds are relegated

WORCESTER Nomads Thirds suffered relegation from Crusader Worcestershire League Division Seven.

Their game with Worcester was abandoned due to the wet weather, while Kempsey recorded a priceless winning draw at home to Malvern.

Having found themselves fielding despite losing the toss, the damp conditions made scoring runs difficult.

The bowlers hit their stride and Worcester struggled to a lowly 108 all out in 40 overs. The wickets were spread around with James Welchman taking three, Patrick O’Driscoll, Nick Williams and Anton Madzarevic two each and Casey Sanders the other.

Nomads replied with rain in the air and, in hindsight, perhaps should have made an early charge.

Neither David Pearson nor Tom Mills appeared to be in too much difficulty and the scoreboard began to tick over.

With the score on 45-0 off 17 overs, the hosts were saved by the heavy rain and the game was abandoned.

Nomads seconds hosted Coombs Wood in Division One but were robbed by the rain.

Having won the toss and asked Wood to bat, the openers made steady progress as they reached 55 before Nigel Butterworth (17) was caught by James Smith off Alex Williams (1-7). Only Nick Jones offered resistance from then on, falling for 54 to Neil Thompson.

The visitors slumped from 108-2 to 143 all out with Thompson (3-28) and Smith cleaning up the tail.

Smith clean bowled the last six batsmen in two overs to finish with figures of 6-28.

But the wet weather meant Nomads did not have the chance to chase down a moderate total.
