BROMSGROVE Rovers chairman Tom Herbert admits he may have been a little hasty when sacking Rob Brown last year after reappointing him to the Victoria Ground hot-seat.

The former Redditch United boss was given the boot by Rovers last November, however, a change in manager did not prevent them from the drop in the British Gas Business Premier Division.

After a poor start to life back in Division One Midlands, Duane Darby was axed, leaving Herbert to call on his old manager just eight months after telling him his services were no longer required.

“It was a hasty decision [sacking Brown] considering the amount of games we had left,” Herbert said. “But I’m delighted that he has come back.

“There has never been any ill-feeling between myself and Rod Brown.”

Brown quit his post at Premier Division outfit Rugby Town on Thursday and was handed back his old job yesterday.

He will formally take charge on Monday with caretaker manager Daryl Burgess in control of today’s clash at Barton Rovers (3pm).

Herbert said he had 17 applications for the position after removing former Rushden and Diamonds striker Darby, who took over from Brown, from his post.

Former Scotland striker Paul Delvin had been heavily linked with the position at the Victoria Ground, while Evesham United manager Paul West rejected an approach.

“Rod is the best man for the job, we have worked together before and I’m looking forward to working with him again,” Herbert added.
