Williams looking to revitalise his career

STRIKER Andy Williams is hoping his re-turn to Hereford United can help him kick-start his career.

The 22-year-old was a favourite at Edgar Street before joining Bristol Rovers for £150,000 in July 2007 following a protracted transfer saga.

However, his Pirates career has been restricted to appearances off the bench this season and the signing of Jo Kuffour from Bournemouth has further limited his opportunities.

Graham Turner has swooped to bring the player back to Hereford until January and Williams is looking forward to getting some first-team football under his belt.

“I haven’t been able to break into the Rovers side so much this season,” he said. “At my age I want to be playing as regularly as possible and Paul Trollope (Rovers’ manager) has seen this as an opportunity for me to play as much football as I possibly can.

“Hopefully it will be a situation where Hereford can help me out by giving me some games and I can help them out by scoring a few goals. It could be a partnership that will help both of us.”

Hereford have struggled to get to grips with League One life but got off the mark with a 2-0 win against Crewe last weekend and Williams is hoping he can help them climb the table.

He said: “I’ve heard some positives about the club and starting in a new league is a tough prospect — it really is. When you come out of the Conference into League Two you can see the difference and a league higher is another step up. It’s tougher still.”

Williams added: “You get the physical sides in League One but you also get teams who can play it around so it can take a little time to get used to. But there is a group here who can hopefully step up.”
