WORCESTER City chairman Dave Boddy has chosen not to respond to the allegations levelled at the club by former president Dr Michael Sorensen.

Sorensen quit St George's Lane over the weekend after nearly 20 years of loyal service, hitting out at the way the club was being run and claiming the board of directors were incapable of taking it forward.

His criticisms, which came in the wake of the breakdown of talks over a compromise deal with the Shareholders Action Group, were a damning indictment on a regime that has just four registered directors left at the helm.

Sorensen's resignation only heightens the uncertainty surrounding the Blue Square South club with several issues remaining unanswered.

The club's accounts are five months overdue at Companies House and a planning application for the proposed stadium move to Nunnery Way has yet to appear - almost a year since the St Modwen deal was done.

The promised annual general meeting for this month also now looks in jeopardy as 21 days’ notice has to be given to supporters.

City chairman Boddy paid tribute to Sorensen's efforts, saying that the running of the club is a harder job than people realised, but a statement did not directly address the criticism.

It read: "It is with regret that Worcester City have received the resignation of the long-serving Dr Michael Sorensen as president and director of the club.

"Mike, who joined the club's board of directors in 1989 and was chairman for 13 years, has served the club with great distinction.

"On taking over as chairman in 1990 the club was close to closing and, with the help of a small group of people, the club was saved. Since then he has made a massive contribution to the club."

Boddy added: "Mike has made a tremendous contribution to this football club over a lengthy and difficult period of time.

"Unless you have been there and done it, you will never know how difficult the task of running this club and surviving is.

"He did a tremendous job as chairman, he has been a great ambassador for the club and, since stepping down from the chair and becoming president, has been very supportive of me and the rest of the board.

"Mike believed that compromise with the Shareholders Action Group was the only way forward for the club and had become frustrated with recent developments.

"He will continue to support the club and help us in a medical capacity."
