TERRY Jenkins will be looking to earn a significant slice of the £250,000 prize fund at next month’s Sky Poker World Grand Prix.
The Ledbury thrower, who is the number five seed, lost to James Wade in last year’s final and will be hoping to go one better this time around when the event gets under way at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin on Monday, October 6.
‘The Bull’ has been drawn against home town favourite Mick McGowan, who will be making his debut in the tournament.
The prize fund for the 2008 Sky Poker World Grand Prix has increased to a tournament-record £250,000, with £50,000 to the champion. The schedule of play for the event, held from October 6-12, will be confirmed early next week.
Meanwhile, Alan Tabern completed a Players Championship hat-trick with a final-leg triumph over Colin Osborne in Newport.
Tabern added to his wins in Wigan and Atlanta this year with a third PDC Pro Tour victory, which moves him up to a career-high tenth in the PDC Order of Merit.
Welsh Players Champion-ship results: First round: James Keogh 3, Terry Jenkins 1.
Final: Alan Tabern 3, Colin Osborne 2 (2-0, 1-2, 1-2, 2-0, 2-1) Tabern picked up £5,000 for his win, while Osborne collected £2,500.
