AFTER finally breaking their away-day hoodoo last weekend, Hereford United know they will need to build on that at home to Hartlepool United at Edgar Street tomorrow (3pm).

The League One strugglers picked up their first three points on the road at Colchester United’s new Community Stadium but Bulls boss Graham Turner knows that will count for nothing if they crash to Danny Wilson’s side.

“We must cash in on that win,” Turner said. “Winning at Colchester has given us a confidence boost.

“That win was important as we have now overcome a psychological obstacle. You can see the confidence that it has given the lads.”

Turner said preparations for tomorrow’s clash with mid-table Pools have been affected by the recent cold snap.

Despite the sub-zero temperatures, the Edgar Street chief will want striker Steve Guinan and winger Lionel Ainsworth to continue turning up the heat.

The duo fired the Bulls to victory in Essex last weekend, giving on-loan Ainsworth his first goal for the club since his return from Watford.

The former Derby County man endured a difficult start to his loan spell after injuring his knee, leaving Turner to fear that he would be out for quite some time.

However, the Watford player is back to full fitness and the goal arrived in his comeback match.

“Lionel is still feeling the injury to his knee but he is managing to play through it,” Turner said.

“There are one or two other minor injuries in the squad but I’m hopeful that they will all be fit for the Hartlepool match.”

Hereford have picked up 11 of their 15 points at Edgar Street and know, despite gaining their first away victory, that they will have to improve their home form if they are to avoid an immediate return to the basement division.

Wilson’s side have been rocked in recent weeks by the loss of young, talented striker James Brown.

The 21-year-old snapped the cruciate ligaments in his knee and last term’s players’ player-of-the-season has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

But the former Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday boss does have on-loan Coventry City striker Kevin Kyle to call on.

The former Sunderland hitman failed to find the net in last weekend’s goalless draw with Yeovil Town.

Wilson is likely to call on his FA Cup star Michael Mackay with Australian striker Joel Porter struggling with a thigh injury.

“Michael did very well at Fleetwood Town in the cup and deserved his second chance,” Wilson said.

“Looking at the way things have happened, it looks like he might get even more games which is great from his point of view.

“I have got no qualms at all. The boys who come in always give you 100 per cent.”
