WORCESTER Wolves continue to press their claim for a British Basketball League play-off spot at on-song Worthing Thunder tonight (7.00).

Skouson Harker’s side lost 87-80 at leaders Scottish Rocks last Sunday but will be looking for a second win of the season at 10th-placed Thunder.

High-scoring Wolves, eighth in the table but level on 10 points with today’s opponents, triumphed 116-110 in a West Sussex thriller on November 2.

Player-coach Harker was in fine form as he led all-scorers with 32 points and Harry Disy hit 26 for the visitors.

Jonathan Woods’ 29 was the highlight for the home side.

BBL newcomers Thunder have won three of their last four games with the only loss being 75-66 against Rocks. The run includes an eye-catching 90-89 victory at Leicester Riders last Saturday.

Coach Gary Smith is keen for revenge over Harker’s men and said: “Worcester tonight is yet another test of where we are.

“We gave them too many easy baskets last time they were in town and created too big a hole for us to dig ourselves out of.

“Anthony Paez is still scoring for fun for them but we handled him pretty well last time and will look to do the same this time.

“What we can’t afford to do is let Harker have the kind of game he had last time, nor allow Disy to get the easy shots he had.

“We know they are going to look to score as they lead the league in points-per-game right now so it should be another high-scoring contest.

“But we can put the ball in the basket too so it should be a great game and a cracker for our fans in our last game before Christmas.

“I’m happier with the way we are playing now but there is always room for improvement and we just need to keep working on the little things that keep making us better.”

Closer to home, Wolves Under 18s play bottom-of-the-table Leicester Cannons Seconds in the Midlands Conference at the University of Worcester today (1.00).

In English Basketball League Division Four South West, Wolves Seconds host Team Gloster Jets today (4.00).

Tomorrow, Wolves Under 14s play Leicester Warriors (noon) and Derbyshire Arrows (2.30) at the university.
