RAINBOW kept up their challenge at the top of Worcester Table Tennis League Division One with a 10-0 whitewash of Cathedral Guild.
However, it was yet another match when the final scoreline did not reflect the close play.
Pete Griffiths, Ray Page and Dave Woodyatt remained unbeaten but were pushed to the limit, especially against the unlucky Steve Glazzard.
St George’s Dragons earned their first win of the season, 7-3 at Himbleton ‘C’.
Geoff Woodward and Steve Mills won their three but, in addition, young team-mate Kamil Churminski was unlucky to come away with just a share in the doubles, having threatened in all of his singles.
YMCA Falcons saw off Himbleton ‘A’ 8-2 in convincing style.
Ian Bell’s serving and John Stalker’s tenacity helped to earn them three wins each with Dave Rotheroe and Malcolm Crane claiming narrow victories over Dave Elliott in reply.
The match of the night was the one between the two Johns with Rowe just losing out to Stalker 12-10, 9-11, 9-11, 12-10, 12-10.
Great play by Jostekeroge’s Rob Sinderberry saw him remain undefeated against Falcons but, sadly for his team, that was the limit of their success with Jim Ahern, Elliott and Bell claiming the rest of the games in a 7-3 success.
Handicap competition round two (to be played between December 22 and January 4): Pavilion Players or YMCA Falcons v WGCC; St Martin’s v Hartlebury Wanderers; St George’s v Strensham or Nemesis; YMCA Kites v Dukes Way.
