RUSS Penn has never hidden his desire to play in the Football League but, given Kidderminster Harriers’ current form, he may not have to leave Aggborough to realise that ambition.

With Mark Yates’ men turning their attentions to the FA Trophy tomorrow, Harriers will go into Christmas week sitting firmly in the play-off places of the Blue Square Premier table.

Aggborough’s star midfielder attracted interest from League One outfit Walsall in the summer yet, as the games tick by this term, the former Scunthorpe trainee could soon be realising his ambition.

“I really hope so,” Penn said. “It would be great to go up with Harriers.

“We are playing well this season and that showed in the second-half against Manfield.

“We played good football at a high tempo to win 2-0 and that is what we need to do.”

The Stags, who beat Harriers 4-2 earlier in the season, gave Yates’ men some rare space in midfield.

“Usually, teams play five across the middle but Mansfield just had two in the centre,” Penn added.
