SKIPPER Craig Wilding says he has no intentions of jumping from the Worcester City ship despite the boo boys at St George’s Lane.

The former Chesterfield striker has come in for a lot of criticism from a certain section of the crowd this season and City boss Richard Dryden said this week he wouldn’t be surprised if the 27-year-old asked to leave the Blue Square South outfit.

But the ex-York City player says that isn’t going to happen.

“Leaving would be the coward’s way out,” he said. “The fans are entitled to their opinion but I’m not going to let it affect me.

“The gaffer has faith in me and he keeps picking me so that is good enough for me.

“I don’t know why I bear the brunt of the criticism, perhaps it’s because I’m the captain.

“All I try to do is my best for the club.”

After a difficult November, City got back to winnings ways last weekend at St Albans with Wilding also on the scoresheet in the 2-0 victory.

The skipper is hoping that the team can kick on from that victory.

“It’s a shame that we are not playing this weekend,” Wilding said. “We have an important period coming up with four games in two weeks.

“We need to get the results so that we can start moving back up the table towards the play-off places.”

Despite a disappointing November where they only picked up three points, Wilding feels the team are good enough to challenge for the play-offs.

“On paper, the squad is definitely good enough,” he added. “But we need to find some consistency. We have the ability but we seem to put in one good performance followed by one poor one — we need to be consistent.”

City return to action next Saturday at home to Bognor Regis Town.
