KIDDERMINSTER Harriers manager Mark Yates insists the Russ Penn to Burton Albion transfer saga is over.
The League Two new boys made a bid for the 23-year-old midfielder but it did not meet chairman Barry Norgrove’s £50,000 valuation of the England ‘C’ international.
Penn, who attracted interest from Walsall and Peterborough United last summer, has two years to run on his present deal and Yates does not want to lose his prize asset.
Burton boss Paul Peschisolido is keen to take Penn to the Pirelli Stadium as the Brewers prepare to build on their Blue Square Premier title success.
Yates said: “They have made an offer but it was rejected and that’s the end of the matter.
“They haven’t been back in touch and that’s as far as it has gone.
“He’s got two years left on his contract and we don’t want him to go. He’s a good player for us.”
Harriers’ squad recruitment received a boost last week with midfielders Brian Smikle and David McDermott and keeper Dean Coleman agreeing deals.
But there are still only seven players under contract for the new season, which kicks-off against newly-promoted Hayes and Yeading United at Aggborough on Saturday, August 8.
Yates added: “Progress is slow, which is unfortunate, but I think that’s the way it’s going to be.
“It’s going to be two or three weeks at least before we can have a squad of players but that’s OK. It’s just the situation we are in.”
